The band appeared to be quietly bemused by host Kristen Wiig and Aidy Bryant’s skit
The xx are due to guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and ahead of their performance the trio have made an awkward appearance in a teaser trailer.
The cringeworthy promo features actor, and this weekend’s host, Kristen Wiig and SNL cast member Aidy Bryant doing a couple of short skits while the indie group stand quietly in the background.
Bryant inexplicably describes The xx as “funky” in one of the bits. “We’re not,” responds vocalist and bassist Oliver Sim, trying his best to play along.

Last week, the band announced their new album ‘I See You’ and performed live for the first time in two years in a BBC Radio 1 live session at London’s Maida Vale studios.
The set included their new single ‘On Hold’, the first piece of new music from The xx in four years. The band released their last album ‘Coexist’ in 2012.
The new track features a sample of Hall and Oates’ 1981 track ‘I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)’, which Daryl Hall claims he hasn’t been paid for.
‘I See You’, The xx’s third studio album, is out January 13, 2017. It was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Texas, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London and produced by the band’s Jamie Smith, plus Rodaidh McDonald. The group have described it as “more outward-looking, open and expansive”.
