‘Watchmen’ and ‘300’ director Zack Snyder confirmed for new ‘Superman’

Director beats the pack to take control of superhero flick

300 director Zack Snyder has been announced as the director of the forthcoming Superman reboot.

The Dark Knight‘s Christopher Nolan has been signed on as producer for some time, but a string of directors were considered for the superhero movie, including Cloverfield‘s Matt Reeves, Moon‘s Duncan Jones and Ben Affleck.

Affleck was reportedly Nolan‘s first choice to direct, but declined the offer, reports celebriFi.com.

Now Snyder will direct the first Superman movie since 2006’s attempted ‘reboot’ Superman Returns.

The Watchmen director said: “All I’ll say is that those guys, Chris and David [Goyer, screenwriter], have created an amazing story. The ‘Why [remake] Superman?’ is definitely being looked at with care, that’s all I could hope for as a director. Everyone always says, ‘Why Superman? Why is he relevant? Who is he now?’ I think those guys have done an amazing job with that. That’s the real trick.”

The actor set to take on the part of Superman is yet to be announced.
