Weezer duet with 'Gossip Girl' for White Stripes, MGMT, Lady Gaga-flavoured gig

Band celebrate Halloween in style

Weezer duet with 'Gossip Girl' for White Stripes, MGMT, Lady Gaga-flavoured gig

Weezer played a 90-minute Halloween extravaganza in New York on Saturday (October 31) with a set that included them covering The White Stripes, MGMT and Lady Gaga - and saw them invite a 'Gossip Girl' actress up onstage.

The Los Angeles band (now expanded to a five-piece live with the much-travelled Josh Freese playing drums for much of the gig and original drummer Pat Wilson moving to guitar) arrived on stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom dressed as various bugs and insects, including frontman Rivers Cuomo decked out as a purple spider.

After opening with a blast of The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army', the band proceeded to play a set comprised mainly of their most popular songs from across their 15-year history and a small selection from the new album 'Raditude'.

Amongst the fresh material performed was current single '(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To', which featured a guest vocal from 'Gossip Girl' actress Leighton Meester.

During the duet, there was a moment of confusion when Cuomo appeared to wait for Meester to sing her lines before realising to that he had in fact missed his own cue - much to the Weezer man's embarrassment.

However, rumours that rapper Lil Wayne might appear to recreate his rap on new song 'Can’t Stop Partying' came to nothing.

Having also played a section of Black Sabbath’s 'War Pigs' during the set, Weezer saved their most popular cover for the encore - a medley of MGMT’s 'Kids' and Lady Gaga’s 'Poker Face', which the crowd greeted with just as much enthusiasm as any of Weezer’s own tracks, before they closed with classic singles 'Island In The Sun' and 'Buddy Holly'.

Weezer played:

'Seven Nation Army' [Instrumental]
'Hash Pipe’
'Undone - The Sweater Song'
'Trouble Maker'
'Surf Wax America'
'War Pigs'
'Why Bother?'
'Say It Ain't So'
'Dope Nose'
'(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To'
'Perfect Situation'
'Can’t Stop Partying'
'Tired Of Sex'
'I’m Your Daddy'
'My Name Is Jonas'
'Beverly Hills'
'Pork And Beans'
'Kids’/'Poker Face'
'Island In The Sun’
'Buddy Holly’
