White Lies' debut album goes straight to Number One in the charts

The band tell NME.COM they're 'blown away'

White Lies have gone straight in at Number One in the Official Albums Chart with their debut record 'To Lose My Life' today (January 25).

The band were informed of the news while filming the video for their next single 'Farewell To The Fairground' in Nikel, Russia.

Frontman Harry McVeigh told NME.COM that he was ecstatic to learn of the album's success.

"This is the best thing that could happen to a band on their debut," he said. "We are completely blown away, it's incredible."

Las week's Number One album, The Script's eponymous debut, slid to Number Three, with Kings Of Leon's 'Only By The Night' taking second place. Other new entries in the albums chart this week include Antony & The Johnsons' 'The Crying Light', which went in at Number 18.

In the singles chart, Lady Gaga continued her reign at the top with 'Just Dance', while Franz Ferdinand's 'Ulysses' debuted at Number 20. Tinchy Stryder featuring Taio Cruz's 'Take Me Back' was the highest new entry, going in at Number Three.

9. Pink – 'Sober'
10. Kanye West – 'Heartless'

White Lies are now set to head out on the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2009 along with Florence And The Machine, Friendly Fires and Glasvegas.

The tour kicks off in Liverpool on Thursday (January 29).
