Led Zeppelin legend turns up at White Stripes show

Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page made a surprise appearance at the White Stripes' second Hammersmith Apollo show last night (Novemebr 6) as the band continued their tour of the UK.

The famous guitarist, who Jack White is often compared with, was spotted watching the gig from the side of the stage throughout the 90 minute set.

Unfortunately hopes of a duet failed to materialise because that was as close to the stage as the founding member of Led Zeppelin got.

But it was another triumphant night for the White Stripes who were greeted with huge cheers when they performed classic hit singles 'Seven Nation Army', 'Hotel Yorba', 'Fell In Love With A Girl', 'The Hardest Button To Button' and the Dusty Springfield cover 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself'.

The duo also threw in a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Lovesick' and performed a series of tracks from their latest album 'Get Behind Me Satan including 'Blue Orchid', 'The Nurse', 'Red Rain', 'As Ugly As I Seem','The Denial Twist' and recent hit single 'My Doorbell'.

Towards the end of the show the duo teamed up for the hillbilly track 'Little Ghost' while Meg took up vocal duties for 'In The Cold, Cold Night' and 'Passive Manipulation'.

Jack continued his theatrics and neat guitar work from the night before, changing his name to Three Quid yet again - only this time he got Meg in on the act, referring to his sister as Penny Farthing in between each song.

His new unexplained name even made an appearance in the last song 'Boll Weevil' when he changed the line 'You tell 'em it's Jackie White' to 'You Tell em it's Three Quid'.

After the show, departing fans were handed a blank free CD-R to download a live rendition of the 'The Denial Twist' from the gig by stewards dressed in little red riding hood outfits.

White Stripes continue their tour of the UK with two dates at Alexandra Palace starting tomorrow (November 8) before they go on to play in Blackpool, Glasgow and Manchester.
