'X Factor' winner gets US record deal
Leona Lewis signs for £5 million
X Factor winner Leona Lewis has signed a US record deal for £5 million ($9.7 million).
Lewis signed with Clive Davis, who discovered acts including Whitney Houston, after performing at an industry showcase on Wednesday (February 7) at the Beverley Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
In a statement Lewis said: “I am just overwhelmed. I can’t believe everything has happened so fast, from winning the 'X Factor' to coming to LA.”
Manager Simon Cowell said: “We’ll do everything in our power to make her an international star. I’ve always said that she is next Whitney Houston and I believe it.”
The deal is for five albums, reports BBC News.
