Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has claimed that his band are funnier than people give them credit for.

In an interview with The Sun, the singer said that his lyrics weren't his dark or as meaningful as fans may think.

"As a writer I don't take my lyrics nearly as seriously as a lot of people do," he said. "I enjoy singing them not because they're poignant, but because they make me smile a bit – they're kind of funny."

He then went on to add:

I think there's a lot more humour in almost any Wilco record than almost anybody gives us credit for.

Tweedy also refuted claims had failed to live up to the heights of earlier albums such as 2002's 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' and 2004's 'A Ghost Is Born', adding: "People claim we're forever dumbing down. I think we've been pretty dumb all along. And defiantly so. It's pop music."
Wilco released their latest album, 'The Whole Love', in September this year. The LP is the band's eighth studio effort and is the follow-up to 2009's self-titled record 'Wilco (The Album)'.

The band celebrated the release of the album by manufacturing their own bicycle, announcing that one fan who pre-ordered the album would be chosen to win the restored 1955 set of wheels.
