Will Smith receives damages over false Hitler 'quote'

Movie star and musician wins at London's High Court

Will Smith has received an apology and damages over claims printed that he believed Adolf Hitler was "a good person".

The matter was settled at London’s High Court after World Entertainment News Network published an article titled "Smith: Hitler Was A Good Person" in December 2007.

The claim was denied by the actor, who stated that his comments, originally given to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper, had been grossly misrepresented.

According to BBC News, Smith’s solicitor Rachel Atkins told the High Court that Smith, "a highly respected actor of international repute and a man of complete integrity", was "deeply distressed" by the accusations.

WENN, which had already circulated an apology, has agreed to pay undisclosed damages to Smith.
