Plus New York Mayor Bloomberg gets in on the action

Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Mayor Michael Bloomberg today announced that the 2007 Farm Aid concert will take place September 9 on Randall’s Island, New York.

The trio made the announcement at the farmer’s market in Union Square in Manhattan, and confirmed that Neil Young and Dave Matthews will once again perform at the event.

Announcing the event at the green market was significant, as the concert this year will provide 100% homegrown food to concert-goers.

New York Cityis set to embark on a new biofuel endeavour, and next year 30% of the city’s heating oil will be required to contain 5% biofuel in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Referring to an incident when his wife sought to buy a biofuel-run car Nelson quipped to the crowd "I thought she might have finally found my Maui stash,", according to Billboard.
