Writer to replace Paul Greengrass as director for ‘Bourne 4’

No word yet on whether Matt Damon will stay onboard

Tony Gilroy, writer of the Bourne films, will direct the fourth adventure about the amnesiac spy.

The franchise has been in doubt since the director of the last two Bourne movies, Paul Greengrass, a long-term collaborator with the lead Matt Damon, left the series over creative differences with the studio.

It is not yet clear if Damon will reprise his role, having previously vowed that he will only return to the franchise if Greengrass was involved.

According to Deadline.com, Gilroy will write and direct The Bourne Legacy. His previous directing credits are Duplicity and Michael Clayton, which was nominated for an Oscar.

Gilroy reportedly only agreed to write the previous film, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, if he did not have to talk to Greengrass.

The writer fell out with the director over the changes to his script in The Bourne Supremacy, the series’ second installment which was released in 2004.
