Wyclef Jean is not on the list of approved Haiti presidential candidates, according to one of the country's electoral officials.
The anonymous source told Reuters that Jean did not meet several requirements needed to make the approved list. One of the requirements was that he must have lived in Haiti for five years – however, he was brought up in Brooklyn and has lived most of his life in the USA.
The provisional list of approved candidates is due to be released to the public today (August 20).
Jean recently said he was in hiding in Haiti, after receiving death threats since announcing his intention to run for president.
