Beatle widow plans Japanese concert
Yoko Ono will hold a memorial concert this Friday (October 7) to mark the 65th birthday of her late husband John Lennon.
The concert will be held at the Nippon Budokan hall in Tokyo where The Beatles played their first Japanese gig in 1966.
Ono feels Lennon’s “spirit” is present in the venue and said she was both “embarrassed and thrilled” at the prospect of singing Beatles songs live.
Lennon was shot and killed by crazed fan Mark Chapman in New York on December 8, 1980.
Had he lived he would have celebrated his 65th birthday on October 9.
Ono will play alongside local musicians and part of the proceeds will be donated to charities in Asia and Africa, including victims of last year’s tsunami disaster.
