Yoko Ono’s driver Karl Karsan, who was accused of attempting to blackmail the star, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of first degree attempted grand larceny at a hearing on Tuesday (December 19).
Karsan was arrested last week after allegedly threatening to release private photos and audio tapes unless John Lennon's widow paid $2 million (£1 million).
He was remanded in custody after a New York court hearing to prevent him returning home to Turkey.
At the hearing, which took place at Manhattan State Supreme Court, Karsan’s lawyer said the driver would: “vigorously dispute” the charges.
However district attorney Anne Schwartz said she was sure Karsan would flee to Turkey if released.
Schwartz said: “It is clear that the defendant has been plotting and planning to commit some sort crime against the victim.”
Karsan is due back in court on January 11, reports the BBC.
