You Me At Six pledge to introduce fans to Thrice and Mogwai
Josh Franceschi also brands 'The X Factor' a 'fucking disgrace'
The Surrey rockers, who release the album on October 3, told Digital Spy that two tracks on the album in particular would introduce fans of the band who are just interested in pop punk to entirely new genres of music.
Singer Josh Franceschi said: "I think 'When We Were Younger' and 'No One Does It Better' are the two that stand out for me because I like to think that there are You Me At Six fans who don't know about Thrice or Mogwai, so for us to have that sound may introduce them into checking out some of our favourite bands."
Franceshi added that he believed he had found his own singing voice on the band's new album and had gone beyond the American pop punk influences of You Me At Six's early work.
Asked why his band had arrived with such an American sound: Franceschi replied:
Yeah, my argument for that is American pop-punk bands were the only artists I looked up to. As a vocalist, I think as time has gone on I've found my own voice and it's not as obvious and trying to emulate other vocalists as it was before. If we had been listening to Oasis and Stereophonics our sound would be completely different.
The singer also slammed The X Factor, saying that the show had become a "fucking disgrace" and exploited its contestants.
Asked if he liked the show, he replied: "In the beginning it was genuinely about going out there and showing wild card auditions. But now you watch it and it's a fucking disgrace. They had seven minutes of a lady who was clearly mentally ill audition and she's been on it every fucking year. Now they follow people from their houses to the audition. It's more of fucking sitcom than a talent contest. Nothing genuine is ever going to come out of that show. I think that's really sad."
