The ex-boy band member says "people don't realise" he's proud of the group's achievements

Zayn Malik has revealed that he has a wall dedicated to One Direction in his house.

The former boy band member is set to release his first autobiography, titled Zayn on November 1 and, in it, he writes that people misunderstand how he feels about his days in the group.

“I can honestly say I’m proud of a lot of stuff from the One Direction days. I’m not sure people realise that, but I am,” he says, as MTV reports.

“I’ve got the memorabilia – the platinum discs we received with every album – all over my house. I have a wall dedicated to displaying them.”

He continued: “One Direction was an incredible experience in its own right, and it’s a part of me, an integral part of my history, and I’m never going to deny that aspect of my life.

“I got to meet amazing fans, and I can never thank all of them enough for the love and support they gave me during the good times, and the bad.”

Malik released his debut solo album ‘Mind Of Mine’ in March, after leaving One Direction in 2015.

Elsewhere in the upcoming book, he says he considers The Beatles to be an important influence on his own music.

“I’d been listening to a lot of tracks by The Beatles when I was working on it,” reads one excerpt. “I had really got into some of their more psychedelic stuff, like ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ from the 1967 album ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’. The piano chords at the start of ‘Fool For You,’ and the guitars, were inspired by The Beatles’ sound… I like to draw on the influence of all sorts of music and artists.”

“When I’d finally finished recording ‘Mind of Mine’, I realized I had put down 48 songs. I couldn’t believe we had so many. It was a nightmare choosing the final list, especially because all the songs meant a lot to me, and I procrastinated as much as I could before making my decision. In the end, it all came together; the songs chosen for the album spoke for themselves.”
