NME Classics - 61 classic tracks from the history of NME
From the earliest beginnings of The Beatles and the Stones in the '60s, to Glam Rock and then Punk in the '70s, through the birth of Indie in the '80s to Britpop in the '90s and beyond... NME has been at the forefront of all of these points in musical history, and then some. The present-day NME office is decorated by the iconic issue covers from all of the above points in time, hung on the walls as inspiration for us to keep trying our best to find the next saviours of Rock'n'Roll. It's not always easy, but the music on these three CDs is as good a reminder as any as to why we bother, why we still get excited when some new bunch of upstarts rear their heads from out of nowhere, and as to how much music can matter. Fingers crossed, in another 30 years' time, we'll be putting together a new set of NME classics, containing music from the next three decades.
