Arthur Foote : An Irish Folk-Song (piano transcription) video

Arthur Foote (1853-1937) was born in Salem, Massachusetts, and was the only important US composer of his generation to have been educated entirely in his own country. He wrote in most major genres, and also penned textbooks. This 1894 piece is quite understated, and not particularly Celtic in style - but it somehow leaves a lasting impression. To me it is faintly reminiscent in approach to the folk song arrangements of Percy Grainger. I am unable to identify the underlying tune. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear www.psear.co.uk
