Proposed Russian National Anthem video

This was Alexander Gradsky's proposal for a new national air for Russia. It uses the tune of the old imperial anthem, God Save the Czar; but Gradsky's lyrics are quite different than those of the tsarist anthem. This live recording was made in Moscow on November 3, 1999. The performers are: a symphony orchestra conducted by Vladimir Simkin, an orchestra of folk instruments conducted by Nikolai Kalinin, the Yurlov State Academic Chorus, and Viktor Kuleschov's Don Cossacks Chorus. The government has selected a new anthem that does not use the melody of the imperial anthem; instead, it uses the melody of the "Hymn of the Soviet Union". The music for God Save the Czar (Боже, Царя храни!) was composed by Alexis Lvov in 1833, and the lyrics were written by Vasily Zhukovsky.
