Sarasena The song begins with a vague, cloudy verse 1, wherein the speaker identifies himself with the warm northeasterly monsoon wind (amihan) that carries heavy rains during the planting season in Negros, making the speaker appear to be in a state which is more than physical. The use of the word "amihan" and "ulan" here is so profound and exploited, hence very effective although they are used only once. Fact is that in months where amihan prevails days are mostly gloomy and rainy, which figuratively symbolizes the speaker's intense sadness. The story actually starts in verse 2, from their childhood acquaintance up to the time they fall in love in adulthood, down to where they entered into total submission of oneself and a confirmation of commitment (in verse 3) to one another in the name of that love they found in each other. See how the speaker asked, "tampad ka bala...?" (Will you remain faithful even if this mountain of gold shall have forever gone?)
