For more info visit www.thegetback.com So I read this piece at BNV that I had only read 1 or 2 other times, and was still working on it during this slam here. It was a semi-final bout between Seattle, San Jose, Ft. Lauderdale, New Orleans and Boston which I hosted, and (as is the custom) performed at the end. Didn't think anyone was filming, but then this surfaced on youtube! So, I mess up all through this poem. I hadn't rehearsed it (clearly) and was stumbling over lines I had just written that morning - it was a small room full of good people, a great place to read something unpolished and honest. For those who know me and how I feel about poetry, I'm not big on putting on a show with it - I prefer it to be fresh and for a purpose. It made sense to read this piece at that moment, and so I did.
