Western powers signed the Yalta agreement and did nothing to prevent Poland and other East European states from falling under the control of Soviet communism. Polish Armed Forces were the fourth largest after the Soviet Union, United States and British Armed Forces during the World War Two. Polish forces had fought the Germans longer than any country since the beginning of the Second World War. They fought alongside the US, British and Soviet troops in most major campaigns in Europe, including the final battle of Berlin. The Polish government in exile was an official ally of the US and Britain. All this did not prevent Roosevelt from handing Poland over to Stalin. As a result of the Yalta Conference, Poland lost a half of its historical pre-war territory, receiving as a compensation the ruined and depopulated territories of the Third Reich (Pomerania and Lower Silesia). NOTE: In May 1945, when the 2nd World War was ended, Polish citizens still illuded themselver the Western powers would remain loyal to their ally and wont allow Poland - the fourth biggest army in the Allied Forces, who spilled their blood together with the British, US and Soviet armies in all major campaigns of the War - fall under control ...
