Super Rail Band featuring Mory Kante - Walenumaloembaliya MALI video

The song 'Walenumaloembaliya' from the 2006 album in the Classic Titles series 'Le Rail Band/Mory Kante' Classic Titles: Mali. The Rail Band was formed in 1970, and is one of the most popular Malian groups. It was later known as Super Rail Band or the Bamako Rail Band. The Rail Band was one of the first West African acts to combine an Afro-Latin sound with traditional instruments and styles. Super Rail Band used the Mande Griot praise singer tradition and combined it with Bambara and other Malian and Guinean musical styles. Their distinctive sound came from combining electric guitar and a jazz horn section with soaring Mandinka and Bamabara vocals, African and western drums, and local instruments such as the kora and the Balafon. The Rail Band's lead singer in the 1970s was Salif Keita, who left the band to join the rival Super Ambassadeurs before launching a successful international solo career in 1982. The group became a training ground for many of Mali's most popular performers, like singer Mory Kanté, guitarists Kante Manfila and Djelimady Tounkara.
