YouTube.com Sam Amidon is the rare artist who can hold the attention of a SXSW crowd with just the power of his voice. Sam Amidon took to our Valley Stage on Friday afternoon sandwiched between a couple of his friends and collaborators -- tUnE-yArDs and Sean Lennon -- but Amidon is a multi-talented player who has performed and recorded with so many diverse artists in the folk, pop and classical realms that it seems he has worked with everyone. Yet it is his own music, informed as much by Appalachian folk as it is modern composition, that mesmerized the Lawn Party crowd, as Amidon performed a stark and simple set of songs, his haunting voice ringing across the grassy expanse. Here he does a great version of the traditional Irish folk tune "As I Roved Out."
