From Suzanne Vega 2nd album Solitude Standing (1987), this song is the reference track used by Karlheinz Brandenburg, the developer of mp3 format in its early trail. As such , Tom's Diner can be considered the first mp3 ever! In 1990 Tom's Diner again hit hte dance charts as a remix by British dance act DNA. Solitude Standing also yielded one of Suzanne Vega's most successful commercial hits Luka.
