10 albums/EPs you need to hear in July

Now that we've entered July, it's time to tell you the albums which are worth getting excited about this month. First up it's Foals' 'Tapes', as the Oxford quintet's keyboardist Edwin Congreave shares the music he and his bandmates love with this fantastic, genre-sprawling mixtape. It's out on July 2.

Haim - 'Forever'. The buzziest bunch of this year's SXSW festival give us a snapshot of what they're capable of in their new EP: Fleetwood Mac meets En Vogue, with shiny harmonies and pop and R&B hooks a-plenty. Check it out from July 2.

Blur - '21'. While we anxiously wait to see if Damon, Graham et al will make our dreams come true with a new studio LP, this will keep us more than occupied in the meantime: a bosxset collection of each of their seven studio albums, released July 30, with 65 previously unreleased tracks, over 130 rarities and three DVDs to boot.

The Gaslight Anthem - 'Handwritten'. Frontman Brian Fallon's said that the New Jersey band's fourth studio album will be "pretty personal and pretty aggressive". It's released on July 23 - but in the meantime, you can check out their acoustic live session recorded at the NME offices.

Frank Ocean - 'Channel Orange'. The smoothest, most sensual Odd Future cohort releases his debut LP on July 17. Given how much we all went weak-at-the-knees for his 'Nostalgia, Ultra' mixtape, we're expecting pretty big things from young Frank on this one...
