12 April Albums To Get Very Excited About

April is awash with some brilliant, end-of-the-year-list-making albums. Here are some of the most essential. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – ‘Mosquito’. When’s it out? April 15th. What can we expect? YYY’s fourth album finds them ditching the gloss of ‘It’s Blitz!’ in favour of a genre mash up. A grotty mix of gospel, surf rock and rap (courtesy of Dr Octagon).

Paramore – 'Paramore'. When’s it out? April 8th. What can we expect? After the acrimonious departure of the Farro brothers, the band have been reduced to a trio. But can guitarist Taylor York step up to the songwriting challenge? Despite the surprise direction of single ‘Now’, the band have boldly embraced their inner pop selves on this make or break fourth album.

Charli XCX - 'True Romance'. When’s it out? April 15th. What can we expect? After what seems like years of being mentioned on blogs and putting out mixtapes, Charlotte Aitchison finally releases her debut. Cast adrift somewhere between genres (witchhouse, goth, electro), she’s worked with the likes of MNEK and Ariel Rechtshaid on her much anticipated debut.

Willy Moon - 'Here's Willy Moon'. When’s it out? April 1st. What can we expect? Short and sweet (it lasts for a mere 29 minutes), Willy's debut is set to be as genre defying as we’ve come to expect from the man who zips between decades like that dude from 'Quantum Leap'. Featuring a Screamin’ Jay Hawkins cover and the Wu-Tang sampling ‘Yeah Yeah’, it’s going to be an unpredictable ride.

The Flaming Lips - 'The Terror'. When’s it out? April 15th. What can we expect? In typically cryptic and romantic terms, Wayne Coyne described 'The Terror' as being inspired by that moment when: “life goes on (without love)…we just go on…there is no mercy killing.” Co-produced again with Dave Fridmann it features a song called ‘Butterfly, How Long It Takes To Die’. We are officially excited.

Kurt Vile - 'Wakin' On A Pretty Daze'. When’s it out? April 8th. What can we expect? He’s still loveably mumbly and awkward but his new album is his poppiest effort yet with Vile sounding like a lo-fi Tom Petty.

The Knife - 'Shaking The Habitual'. When’s it out? April 8th. What can we expect? Armed with a feminist manifesto, musically Karin and Olof push their sound into industrial, post-Cold Wave territories, abandoning their usual songwriting processes for a more instinctual, jam session styled process.

Major Lazer - 'Free The Universe'. When’s it out? April 15th. What can we expect? Diplo and pals have toned it down ever so slightly for their second album. A much more enriching experience than their debut, it features some brilliant guest turns from Danielle Haim, Ezra from Vampire Weekend and Amber from Dirty Projectors.

Tyler, The Creator - 'Wolf'. When’s it out? April 1st. What can we expect? Aside from a typically brilliant cover, Tyler has hinted that ‘Wolf’ will lurch towards neo-soul (one track features Erykah Badu) and a move away from his bloodier, more fantastical lyrical outpourings. Odd Future pals Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and Hodgy Beats are also set to guest star.
