12 Chilling Album Covers That Could Be Horror Film Posters

It might be Friday the 13th – but these album covers are scary all year round. Here's 12 frankly terrifying pieces of album artwork and how Hollywood might turn them into movies for future freaky days...

  • Korn – 'Korn': What's scary about this 1994 album sleeve, in which the long winding shadow of a sharp-clawed figure looms large over a young girl on a swing? Oh, just everything, that's what. The movie pitch: a Freddy Krueger type character – Freddy Kornger? – terrorises suburbia, to the tune of dated, baggy-jeaned, bagpipe-assisted angst-metal.

  • Brand New - 'The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me': Masked men in reaper-ish hooded coats scheme, inches as a young girl plays outside a weathered house. The movie pitch: With shades of Let The Right One In, this would see a Satanist plot unfold through the eyes of an infant, bringing untold destruction to humanity and giving emos Brand New great moan-material for their next LP.

  • Funkadelic – 'Maggot Brain': Is fashion model Barbara Cheeseborough, seen here buried up to her neck in soil, screeching out for help, or for more funk? The movie pitch: 'Maggot Brain' has got zombie funk epidemic blaxploitation classic written all over it.

  • Tyler The Creator – 'Bastard': Grimacing children, painted over in thick crimson. The most unnerving bit? Definitely the girl with the upside down face in the front row. The movie pitch: Unruly kids rebel murderously against OFSTED officers and GCSE exam invigilators, chanting "KILL PEOPLE BURN SHIT FUCK SCHOOL" as they go. Basically Byker Grove, but by John Carpenter.

  • Lady Gaga – 'Born This Way': Gaga's snarling head fastened onto the head on a shiny chrome motorbike. No, we don't know either. The movie pitch: Is Tarantino still doing Grindhouse? If so, the story of Chopper – part motor machine, part feminist badass, riding the streets at night issuing vigilante justice to scumbag bros – writes itself. Saxophone solos on the OST optional.

  • Crystal Castles – 'Crystal Castles II': A desolate graveyard, a vacant-looking child dressed all in black, walking away from a gravestone that reads "Mother." Not exactly the image you'd put on your family Christmas card round-robin. The movie pitch: A grainy-looking indie-flick Children Of The Corn, kinda like Larry Clark's Kids if Chloë Sevigny and co were cannibals.

  • BADBADNOTGOOD - 'BBNG2': These Toronto experimentalists decided to adorn this jazzy covers album with this image of a misty figure in pig mask and flowery dress. The movie pitch: Charlie Brooker-penned feature length Black Mirror, in which a psycho farmer gets revenge on a dastardly PM who, in this completely fictional universe, has done unspeakable things to his prize pet.

  • Iron Maiden – 'Killers': Maiden mascot Eddie smiles creepily, axe in hand, bathed in the yellow glow of a street light. The movie pitch: How has Eddie not had a movie of his own already? For shame, Maiden's marketing department. The story of a 9 foot monster whose blood lust is equalled only by his desire for wailing metal solos would have audiences hurtling towards Odeons.

  • Ghostface Killah – '36 Seasons': – The Staten Island master has long been influenced by horror. This sleeve is pure terror – a pastel-painted masked man whose eyes are hollow voids. The movie pitch: A bit like 30 Days Of Night – except from this snow-faced demon has a whole 36 consecutive seasons to unleash his murderous rage on an unsuspecting American town. Oh and also he can rap.

  • Rammstein – 'Sehnsucht': Well now, this person looks a little worse for wear. Although to be honest we've seen people in similar states at 3am at Glastonbury's Stone Circle. The movie pitch: Basically just a Rammstein tour documentary.

  • The Horrors – 'Strange House': The Horrors that we know and love today didn't look particularly approachable when they sat for their debut album cover photo in 2007. The movie pitch: An arty black-and-white effort in which Southend-on-Sea is besieged by gothy scarecrows.

  • The Prodigy – 'Music For The Jilted Generation': Like the Wilhelm Scream, but trapped in liquid metal. Brrrrr, chilling. The movie pitch: Keith Flint stalks at raves, waiting by the DJ booth for idiots asking if "they can play any David Guetta" before teaching them a torturous lesson.
