13 Albums To Look Forward To In August

  • Swim Deep – Where The Heaven Are We? When's it out? August 5th. The hotly anticipated debut from the Birmingham band is ready to be released but will it live up to expectation? If the angular 'She Changes The Weather' and the re-release of first single 'King City' are anything to go by then their own brand of sun-drenched pop could have you hooked all summer.

  • The Civil Wars – The Civil Wars When's it out? August 5th. Recorded in Nashville over the second half of last year, Joy Williams and John Paul White's second album features 'The One That Got Away' - now available to stream - and, on one track, guest production from Rick Rubin.

  • Pond – Hobo Rocket When's it out? August 5th. Aussie rockers Pond are wasting no time following up last year's 'Beards, Wives, Denim'. 'Giant Tortoise' is already out there and whets appetites for the band's fifth album, a seven-track beast they describe as a "full on crazy fiend rock and roll album". So that's all right then.

  • Bloc Party – Nextwave Sessions When's it out? August 12th. They might have gone on indefinite hiatus after their Latitude headlining set, but Bloc Party are still treating us to new material - a five track EP produced by Dan Carey. Of lead track 'Ratchet', Kele Okereke says, "We started slipping it into the sets at the start of this year just to try it out and the reactions were insane."

  • White Lies – BIG TV When's it out? August 12th. This third album has promised a reining in of the Ealing band's huge, gloomy widescreen sound but it's still a mighty set, packed with huge choruses and vast arenas of sound that recall Simple Minds in their early 80s experimental era.

  • Drenge – Drenge When's it out? August 19th. Yes, yes, Tom Watson MP's favourite band. The House of Commons will be rocking to this scorching debut album from the worryingly Denmark-obsessed boys, which follows hot on the heels of next single 'Face Like A Skull'.

  • A$AP Ferg – Trap Lord When's it out? August 19th. Possibly maybe the most exciting thing to come out of the A$AP crew (sorry Rocky, but you had a good innings), Ferg initially pegged his 'Trap Lord' as a mixture but early messages suggest it's just been too good to waste.

  • No Age – An Object When's it out? August 19th. As Sub Pop celebrates its unofficial 25th anniversary, it seems a splendid time for one of the best bands on the roster to chuck out their fourth album. We're pledged "hummable" songs, but let's face it, there'll be a whole load of thrilling noise too.

  • Earl Sweatshirt – Doris When's it out? August 20th. The Odd Future camp will not stop coming up with the goods, but after the slew of material from Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean etc, and his guest spots with each, it seems odd that only now are we getting Earl Sweatshirt's debut. Leaked tracks suggest it's been worth the wait.

  • King Krule – 6 Feet Beneath The Moon When's it out? August 24th. One of the most feverishly anticipated debuts of the year, King Krule's first effort is a 14-track monster produced by Rodaidh McDonald (who has xx, Savages and Daughter credits) and comes out on Archy Marshall's 19th birthday. Bless him.

  • Franz Ferdinand – Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action When's it out? August 26th. The long-awaited fourth album from Alex Kapranos and crew sees the band sharpening their signature style. Choruses are still earworms, guitars still angular on a concise collection that's as lean and lithe as a cheetah.

  • Belle & Sebastian - The Third Eye Centre When's it out? August 26th. The second compilation album (after 2005's 'Push Barman To Open Old Wounds) from Glasgow's finest features B-sides and rarities collected over the past few years, a snapshot of the enduring band in their more mature period.

  • Big Sean – Hall Of Fame When's it out? August 27th. The Kanye West-sponsored rapper - he first came through on Yeezy's GOOD Music venture - is buffing up his second album for August release. 2011 debut 'Finally Famous' turned heads, but the feeling is Big Sean's right on his game now and ready to push out one of 2013's big hip-hop contenders.
