Kooky piano balladeer Tori Amos started out as the frontwoman of the appallingly-titled '80s synthpop band Y Kant Tori Read. Their self-titled debut didn't sell, perhaps due to the fact the label pulled all publicity for it after two months, but more likely because Amos was pictured on the cover wearing a waistcoat over a dress, holding a sword.
