  • Avril Lavigne – 30. It seems like only yesterday that a teenage Avril caused sales of stripy tights to skyrocket with the success of single 'Complicated'. This September, she'll be 30, and presumably spending her birthday with husband Chad Kroeger of Nickelback fame. There's a lesson, kids: life always disappoints in the end.

  • Nick Zinner – 40. 39-years-old and still looking like a sulky goth teenager, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner will be 40 in December 2014. He and his bandmates released their fourth album 'Mosquito' in 2013.

  • Tom Morello – 50. Rage Against The Machine guitarist Morello turns 50 this May, although maybe he's getting a bit mellower nowadays – he's recently landed a touring gig playing live with esteemed rock elder statesman Bruce Springsteen, for starters.

  • Chris Cornell – 50. Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell will have been around for a half-century this year. The band will be playing their classic LP 'Superunknown' at SXSW tomorrow, while the singer's allegedly been receiving a spate of nasty death threats on Twitter from an obsessed fan.

  • Jimmy Page – 70. Page is now 70 years old – which, incidentally, is how long it feels he's been surrounded by 'will-they-won't-they' whispers about a reunion with his old bandmates.
