Arctic Monkeys kicked off the opening day of Lisbon's Nos Alive festival - formerly known as Optimus Alive - last night (July 10) ahead of their forthcoming headline slot at T In The Park on Sunday (July 13). Frontman Alex Turner - dressed in his trademark leather jacket - got the party started with 'AM' opener 'Do I Wanna Know?'.

Turner tested his Portuguese skills out early on ahead of 'Don't Sit Down Cos I've Moved Your Chair' when he said: "Obrigado (thank you) - we're gonna party here tonight Lisbon," before launching into the 'Suck It And See' single.

The Sheffield band performed for over 90 minutes on the main Nos Stage, playing 20 songs from their backcatalogue including 10 tracks from their 2013 album 'AM' alongside early classics 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', 'Dancing Shoes'. 'Brianstorm' and 'Fluorescent Adolescent'.

The Monkeys' now customary take on Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' was also included early on, during their rendition of 'Arabella'. Following recording sessions for their third album 'Humbug', Turner told NME their Josh Homme produced LP was "heavily influenced" by Ozzy Osbourne's band.

The Sheffield four-piece later wove 'Dancing Shoes' and 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' into their set, the latter of which their slick quiffed frontman dedicated to the ladies in the crowd. "This is an old song... It's for the girls," he added.

Ahead of 'Fireside', Turner got all romantic as he introduced the track, declaring: "Lisbon, I want to play you a love song right now. It seems the right thing to do." He later dedicated 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High' to "the booty call you're going to make".

Wrapping up their show with 'One For The Road' and 'Am' closer 'I Wanna Be Yours', the band let the crowd do the singing and as they tore into 'R U Mine' at the end.

The Monkeys will now top the bill at T In The Park on Sunday before they wrap up their summer with a headline performances at Reading And Leeds Festivals on the weekend of August 22-24.
