Brit Awards 2011 - our predictions

Arcade Fire, Mumford and Sons, Vampire Weekend, The xx and Florence And The Machine are among the acts nominated for the Brit Awards 2011. Tinie Tempah led the field by bagging four nominations - and Jessie J (pictured) will be Critics' Choice. The ceremony takes place in London on Tuesday 15 February.

Brit Awards 2011 - our predictions

The British Album Of The Year category will be contested by Mumford and Sons' 'Sigh No More' (er, wasn't that released in 2009?), Plan B's 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks', Take That's 'Progress', Tinie Tempah's 'Disc-Overy' and The xx's 'xx' (er, didn't that come out in 2009 as well?). We reckon Mumford could actually win this.

International Female Solo Artist - Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, and Robyn (pictured). Our money's on Katy Perry (they'll want her at the ceremony because the press love her), but Rihanna could be in with a shout too.

Up for British Breakthrough Act are The xx (again, didn't they 'break through' the previous year?), Ellie Goulding (who won Critics' Choice in 2010), Mumford And Sons, Rumer, Tinie Tempah, The xx. In keeping with their apparent desire to leave their naff past behind and be a bit cooler, we reckon the Brit panel will give this to The xx.

Laura Marling gets a well-deserved nomination - and has to be one of the favourites - in a pretty weak British Female Solo Artist category, which also includes Cheryl Cole, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith and Rumer.

Surprise surprise, Kanye's up International Male Solo Artist - he is the king of award ceremonies. He's bound to win, though he'll face competition from Bruce Springsteen, Cee Loo Green, Eminem and David Guetta.

Kings Of Leon's 'Come Around Sundown' didn't delight critics, but it sold well, so gets a nod in the International Album category, alongside Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs', Cee Lo Green's 'The Lady Killer', Eminem's 'Recovery' and Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream'. Given that the Brits are trying to be a bit edgier this year, our money's on Arcade Fire.

British Single? Tinie Tempah's up for that one too, for 'Pass Out'. Also in the category - Cheryl Cole's 'Parachute', Florence's 'You've Got The Love', Scouting For Girls' 'This Ain't A Love Song' and Olly Murs' 'Please Don't Let Me Go'. It's a pretty woeful list to be honest. They won't give it to Florence - she won a Brit last year. Tinie Tempah's the likely winner.

Brit Awards 2011 - our predictions

Vampire Weekend are up for International Group, along with Arcade Fire, Black Eyed Peas, Kings Of Leon, The Script. It'd be nice for Arcade Fire to get this, but Black Eyed Peas are just too big to ignore. They broke download records in 2010, they're bound to win this.

Biffy Clyro could be in with a chance in the British Group category, though the idea of a Take That Brit landslide may be too appealing for organisers to ignore. Other bands in this category: Mumford And Sons, Gorillaz, The xx.

Brit Awards 2011 - our predictions

Ethan Johns is up for best British Producer, presumably for his work in 2010 with Laura Marling and Tom Jones. Other nominees are John Leckie, Markus Dravs and Mike Pela - but we think the all-conquering Stuart Price will walk it.

The British Male Solo Artist category is being contested by Paul Weller, Mark Ronson, Plan B, Robert Plant and Tinie Tempah. A chance for Plan B to finally get some recognition, perhaps?

International Breakthrough Act? Well The Temper Trap (pictured) are never going to win it, are they? The National, Bruno Mars and the Glee cast (WTF?) are also nominated, but given he's the world's biggest pop star this could be Justin Bieber's year, even though it'll probably make the millions watching at home go, 'Justin who?'
