Cassette Store Day: 15 Great Tapes Getting Released

  • The inaugural International Cassette Store Day will take place this Saturday, September 7, and a host of new and classic releases will be available on tape for one day only. Here's our pick of the best:

  • ‘Tripper’ is the debut album from Efterklang, and was originally released back in 2004. A statement on their website said that they were pleased to be a part of the day: “move fast if you want one and remember to always support your independent record stores!”

  • The epic debut album from hardcore rockers Fucked Up, ‘Hidden World’, is being reissued by label SEXBEAT in honour of the occasion. These are sure to be snapped up quickly, with only 100 being released.

  • At The Drive In are just one of the big names drawn in to the celebrations, with their classic album ‘Relationship of Command’ being reissued.

  • ‘Tough Love’, Pulled Apart By Horses’ second album, will be reissued by label Transgressive, and is another one that will fly off the shelves. 100 will be available for £5.99 each.

  • Deerhunter are no stranger to the neglected format, and sixth album ‘Monomania’ will join their previous releases on cassette. Tapes of their live session ‘On Platts Eyott Island’ were given away to fans, and they released limited copies of EP ‘Rainwater Cassette Exchange’, which were sold exclusively on tour.

  • Originally only released as a download, Californian sisters Haim’s critically acclaimed ‘Forever EP’ will be available on cassette ahead of their debut album ‘Days Are Gone’, out on 27 September.

  • Taken from Younghusband’s upcoming debut album, the ‘Silver Sisters’ cassette will feature an exclusive B-side, ‘Motion’. Singer Euan Hinselwood said: “The first pieces of music I ever recorded were onto cassettes. Releasing a cassette single is almost a life long ambition fulfilled”.

  • Animal Collective’s acoustic fifth album ‘Sung Tongs’ is one of the older albums available for the occasion, having been first released in 2004.
