Damon Albarn Thrills Latitude Festival 2014 With Solo Headline Set

  • Damon Albarn was joined onstage by his Blur bandmate Graham Coxon during his Latitude headline set on Saturday (July 19) in Suffolk, bringing out the guitarist for an encore of 'Tender'.

  • Speaking from the stage during the encore Albarn said: "There are some Blur songs I can sing on the piano, but there are some that are impossible to do without the man I wrote them with: Mr Graham Coxon."

  • Coxon then took to the stage to rapturous applause as the pair began 'Tender' and heavy rain started to pour over the cheering crowd. At the end of the track, Coxon left without saying anything. The pair have not performed together since Blur's last gig in January in Tokyo.

  • It was one of the highlights of a triumphant set from Albarn. He was also joined on stage by rapper Kano to perform Gorillaz hit 'Clint Eastwood' during the encore.

  • Earlier on in his set, Damon and his backing band The Heavy Seas, were introduced by Steve Lamacq who stated, "I've been told I've got four words to describe this man: a really clever fella" before Damon began an opening collection of songs from 'Everyday Robots' tracks including the title song and 'Lonely Press Play'.

  • He then carried on with a set taking in the likes of 'Hollow Ponds', 'Hostiles' and 'Photographs (You Are Taking Now)' from this year's solo LP.

  • Heavy rain soaked the Latitude crowd during the encore. A visibly delighted Damon joked with the audience, "well, I don't know about you but I've had a shit time," he concluded before playing 'Heavy Seas of Love' and taking a final bow.
