Franz Ferdinand played an exclusive show for XFM Presents with Ford Sync in aid of War Child at The Garage in North London last night (29 October).

The 75-minute performance had the feel of a Greatest Hits set as the Glasgow four-piece alternated between tracks from their latest album, ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action’.

They also played fan favourites such as ‘The Dark Of The Matinee’, ‘Do You Want To’ and ‘This Fire’.

Another highlight was a cover of ‘I Feel Love’, spliced with new track ‘Can’t Stop Feeling’. The band have been playing Donna Summer’s 1977 disco classic as a tribute since Summer died last year.

Bassist Robert Hardy was not present. “He’s in a batter place—Glasgow,” joked Kapranos. A friend called Scott stood in for Hardy, whose absence didn’t affect a confident performance.

Kapranos in particular seemed in good spirits. At the end of the new track ‘Evil Eye’ when the band stopped abruptly and unexpectedly the singer winked at the crowd and laughed.

At the end of the main set, the band left the stage to shouts of “one more song”. They returned to the stage to play ‘Right Action’ and their 2003 single ‘Darts Of Pleasure’.
