The Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon dropped by the NME office to play a very special acoustic performance of the band's new single '45', for a select audience of fans last week.

Of the track, he called it "the energy booster," of forthcoming album 'Handwritten'. "It sounded familiar but fresh to us."

Brian told us that the track was almost written in one go. "Lyrics probably got written over a few times, but one time we got the chorus, the rest of the song came."

Brian also treated fans to a version of '1930' . He said: "I look forward to watching this later on YouTube," after the performance.

Speaking about the new album earlier this year, Brian described the songs from 'Handwritten' as "pretty personal and pretty aggressive".

The Gaslight Anthem will play a one-off UK headline show this summer. The New Jersey band will appear at London's KOKO venue on June 11 and will also play at Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The band are also set to open up for reunited grunge icons Soundgarden on some of their European summer tour dates.

The band are also set to play Metallica's very own festival next month. They will join Arctic Monkeys and Best Coast at the Orion Music + More festival, that will take place on June 23 and 24 in Bader Field, which is near Atlantic City in New Jersey.

The Gaslight Anthem will release their new album, 'Handwritten', on July 23rd. The album was produced by Brendan O'Brien. The band recorded the follow-up to 2010's 'American Slang'.

The tracklisting for 'Handwritten' will feature the tracks '45', 'Handwritten', 'Here Comes My Man', 'Mulholland Drive',  'Keepsake'.
