Haim In Pictures - Their Career So Far

This week's NME cover stars are Haim, the LA trio who've taken over the world in the last couple of years. Here, we celebrate the life and career of the band in pictures. Este Haim was born on March 14, 1986, exactly nine months after parents Donna and Moti married. Danielle followed in 1989 and Alana was born in 1991.

In 2007 the threesome dump Rockenhaim dutues and become Haim, playing their first gig at the California Institute Of Abornmal Arts. Before they record their first EP, they release songs on Myspace, struggling in the studio until they meet Ludwig Goransson who produces the 'Forever' EP.

In Summer 2010 Este graduates from UCLA with a degree in Ethnomusicology, which she completes in two years instead of five. Danielle is touring Australia and Japan with Julian Casablancas (he spotted her onstage playing at a Jenny Lewis show). Alana is still in high school.

Haim's dad curtailed their TV watching so they had time to draw on a plethora of musical influences from TLC to Spice Girls, Mozart to Limp Bizkit and Fleetwood Mac to Ravel.

Haim play SXSW for the first time. Alana: "At our first gig there were four people including a baby dancing in a tutu and two dudes. That's who we played to. I was like, 'Holy shit, this is going to be it. We're playing to a baby!'" By the end of the festival they were playing to crowds in their hundreds.

"I almost died," Este told NME later. "We were in the middle of a song and I'm diabetic and I didn't eat before my set like a smart, good diabetic does, and I remember not being able to feel my arms, and I was like 'This is not a normal feeling when I'm playing music'."
