The Strokes performed only their fourth show of 2014 on Sunday, playing a hit-packed 17-song set at Los Angeles' FYF Festival (August 24). Strokes shows have been something of a rarity since releasing 2013's 'Comedown Machine'. Could European shows be on the horizon? Here's hoping. In the meantime, here's some snaps from our photographer on the ground in LA.

The five-piece were welcomed to the LA Sports Arena and Exposition Park by the largest crowd of the weekend at the event, which also featured appearances from bands including Phoenix, Interpol and Haim. Here's Albert Hammond Jr lost in a haze of smoke.

The Strokes' set came in a weekend where both frontman Julian Casablancas and guitarist Albert Hammond Jr had also played solo shows at the Californian festival, now in its 11th year.

The New York band tackled an ambitious 17-song set, featuring material spread across their five albums. It was a performance that displayed the familiar characteristics that have defined their live shows since the release of debut album 'Is This It' in 2001 – black leather jackets, unkempt hair and minimal interaction between both band members and the audience.

Casablancas kept his stage chatter to a minimum. "How was your weekend, guys?" he asked at one point, adding, “Just play, I don’t want to talk!” before ploughing into 'One Way Trigger' from 2013's 'Comedown Machine'. Before a raucous rendition of '12:51' from 'Room On Fire', Casablancas admitted to feeling awkward when speaking to the audience. “These are my thoughts... They’re all I’ve got.”

After 'Last Nite', the Strokes exited the stage, before returning to perform a loose and powerful version of 'New York City Cops' from their hugely influential debut as an encore. As the band waved goodbye for the evening, their rapturous audience were left chanting "just one more".

So far this year, the band had performed at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester and the Governor's Ball festival in New York in June, along with a show at the The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas earlier this month.
