The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) took place in Los Angeles last night (September 12th) featuring Lady Gaga, Florence And The Machine, Eminem, Justin Bieber and more. Keep clicking for all the action from the night.
Lady Gaga made sure she was the talking point. The singer, who won eight awards, followed up her recent meat bikini look (for the cover of Japan’s mens’ Vogue) with a full carnivorous ensemble by designer Franc Fernandez as she picked up the Video Of The Year award from Cher.
VMA hostess Chelsea Handler (from hit E! show Chelsea Lately) arrived with a house on her head at the start of the show. An unruly dove escaped from the costume and had to be caught by a handler.
Eminem took to the stage to perform ‘Not Afraid’ from his recent album ‘Recovery’ before being joined by Rihanna for ‘Love The Way You Lie’.
Taylor Swift debuted a song about Kanye West at the VMAs. Entitled ‘Innocent’ it feature the lyric: “Thirty-two and still growing up now; who you are is not what you did… you’re still an innocent“.
Rapper Drake, who performed ‘Fancy’ with Mary J Blige and Swizz Beatz, takes a bite out of Lady Gaga’s raw meat while she stands looking as happy as ever.
Usher onstage at the MTV VMAs 2010. He ran through his summer hit ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love’ and the auto-tune heavy ‘OMG’. While he was nominated for a few awards (Best Male Video, Best Choreography in a Video) he went home empty-handed.
30 Seconds To Mars won the award for Best Rock Video for ‘Kings And Queens’, seeing off competition from Florence, MGMT, Muse and Paramore. They were also up for Video of the Year and Best Art Direction in a Video.
30 Seconds To Mars pick up the award for Best Rock Video (for ‘Kings and Queens’). The statue is a model of a man landing on the moon, referencing MTV’s adverts around their launch in 1981.
Florence took her machine over the pond and performed ‘Dog Days Are Over’. The track was nominated for Video Of The Year but lost out to the ever-present Lady Gaga (who won for ‘Bad Romance’).
Mary J. Blige onstage with Swizz Beatz and rapper Drake performing the latter’s ‘Fancy’, which features an uncredited vocal track from Blige. He told MTV before the show he was concerned about falling over as he was wearing his dress shoes for the first time.
Robyn performs ‘Dancing On My Own’ with house artist Deadmau5 at the 2010 MTV VMAs. The ceremony passed without any manor incidents this year, which was unusual for the bash.
B.o.B. performed ‘Nothing On You’ with Bruno Mars (read more about the latter and watch his new video on the Popwatch blog) before launching into ‘Airplanes’ with Hayley Williams from Paramore.
Canadian DJ Deadmau5 was the in-house musician for the duration of the awards ceremony.
Katy Perry and Nicky Minaj presented the award for Best Male Video to Eminem. He took home the statue for ‘Not Afraid’.
Lady Gaga picked up a predictable volley of awards at this year’s ceremony. Her eight wins included: Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video, Best Collaboration, Best Direction in a Video, Best Choreography in a Video, and Best Editing in a Video.
Paramore’s Hayley Williams brought a chic white jacket but forgot her trousers when she joined B.o.B. for their chart-topping track ‘Airplanes’.
Justin Bieber rocks the cheap leather trousers, odd waistcoat and Lego hair look on his way into the MTV VMA awards. For his performance he changed into a backwards cap and oversized puffa jacket.
Rihanna, who was up for the prestigious Best Editing In A Video award (for ‘Rude Boy’) hit the stage with Eminem at the start of the show.
Justin Bieber looks less street than Prince William during his early performance. He played the intro to ‘U Smile’ before treating the crowd to ‘Baby’ and ‘Somebody To Love’.
Kanye used this year’s MTV VMAs to make amends for his debacle last year, performing the song ‘Runaway’ and singing the line: “I always find something wrong; you’ve been putting up with my (expletive) for too long“. He was greeted by a mixture of boos and cheers.

Cult actor Jesse Eisenberg (from Adventureland and The Squid and the Whale), Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake came onstage to introduce Drake, May J. Blige and Swizz Beatz.
Actress and model Eva Marcille does the white carpet at the 2010 MTV VMAs. She won the third season of America’s Next Top Model.

The cast of MTV reality show Jersey Shore made an appearance at the VMAs, and were the butt of several jokes from hostess Chelsea Handler.
Best buddies (well, probably not) Usher and Justin Bieber hang out on the white carpet. They both performed at the night and Bieber won Best New Artist, over Broken Bells, Jason Derülo, Kesha and Nicki Minaj.

Paramore rock up to the MTV VMAs 2010. They were nominated for Best Rock Video (for ‘Ignorance’) but lost out to Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds To Mars.
The MTV Video Music Awards have been running since 1984, three years after the station launched. They’ve been held in New York, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. This year they took place at the Nokia Theatre in LA.
Cher made the grave error of wearing a see-through flimsy dress on the same night she had to present an award to, and then hug, a raw meat-clad Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga continued her tireless and tiresome pursuit of the shock factor with a dress made out of meat, and used her speech to announce the title of her new album: ‘Born This Way’. She also sung a portion of the title track.
Gaga in yet another outlandish outfit. Rumours that she’ll one day really shock us by turning up in jeans and a t-shirt remain sadly unconfirmed.
Kesha and the brilliantly-named Trey Songz introduced Usher to the stage. Kesha was up for Best Pop Video (for ‘Tik Tok’) but lost out to Lady Gaga, who won the award, alongside Best Dance Video and six others.
Usher turns up to the 2010 VMAs. His video for ‘OMG’ was nominated for Best Make Video but he lost out to Eminem. He later performed that track alongside ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love’.
