Maximo Park dropped by the NME office to play a very special stripped back performance of 'The Undercurrents', for a select audience of fans last week.

Of the track, taken from upcoming album 'The National Health', Paul Smith said that they felt it had "a lot of potential" but that he didn't want to make it "more bombastic than it should be".

Paul told us that making the track was a team effort. "Everybody in the band, all five us, have kind of really came up with their A-game on that song"

Maximo Park will be back in UK to play Evolution festival, June 4 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. On their tour the band from Gateshead will also play at Hop Farm festival in Tonbridge and Pukkelpop in Belgium.

The band will also preview their new material with a short tour this month, playing three intimate UK dates in Manchester, London and Birmingham in the days before the album's release.

Maximo Park will release their fourth album 'The National Health', which they recorded with Pixies and Foo Fighters producer Gil Norton, on June 11. The band said that the new album featured "quite a lot of soul-searching".

The tracklisting for 'The National Health' will feature the tracks 'When I Was Wild', 'The National Health', 'Hips And Lips', 'Write This Down', 'Reluctant Love', 'Until The Earth Would Open'.
