  • With the NME Awards just around the corner, it's time to check out who's in the running for a prize. Arctic Monkeys lead the pack with seven nominations including Best Music Moment for their Glastonbury set. Plus, Alex Turner's nominated for Hero Of The Year. The band have bagged 13 gongs in previous years.

  • Kanye West might have bagged Villain Of The Year in 2010 but the tides have turned this year. Yeezy's up for three awards including Best Album and Best Solo Artist.

  • Haim have never won an NME Award before, but this year they're nominated for four plus two for individual members. Este's competing with Alex Turner for Hero Of The Year and Alana's blog is also celebrated.

  • Russell Brand always causes controversy so it's not a big shocker that he's in the running for both Hero Of The Year and Villain Of The Year. He clashed with Bob Geldof while presenting the NME Awards in 2006.

  • The Smiths scooped a prize for Best Reissue in 2012, but this year Morrissey's in the running for gongs on on his lonesome. The former frontman is being celebrated for both his music and his autobiography.

  • With three nominations, including Best Live Band and Best Album, Queens Of The Stone Age will be hoping to add to their haul of NME Awards this year. The group scooped Best Live Band in 2004.

  • Acclaimed music film Made Of Stone is nominated for Best Movie. Detailing the history of The Stone Roses - who were nominated for Music Moment of the Year at last year's awards - it's competing against titles like Muscle Shoals and Dave Grohl produced Sound City .

  • Russian punk band Pussy Riot have the chance to bag gongs at this year's event. The band - two of whom were released for prison just last month after being arrested for protesting outside a cathedral - are nominated for Hero Of The Year.
