  • The NME Photography Awards with Nikon saw thousands of top-notch shots sent in to be judged by legendary photographers Dean Chalkley, Jill Furmanovsky, and Pennie Smith. This shot from Kane Hibberd was highly commended in the Professional category.

  • Unbelievably, this was the winning shot from the 14 and Under category. Wouter Loeve composed the pic, and impressed Pennie Smith. "Younger people can look at things with cleaner eyes" she remarked, adding "black and white suits me, as I've made a career out of it".

  • Rob Marrison took this interesting shot of a punter in a monkey hat at Latitude this year, scooping the top spot in the Reportage category. "It feels like the photographer and the subject are both asleep, or at least slowed down and thoughtful" Pennie Smith commented. "I like those moments where you're caught off-guard."

  • Matt Richardson was highly commended in the Age 15-17 category for this colourful shot of Karen O at the Bournemouth O2 Academy in December 2009.

  • Matthew Dear throws a flamboyant pose at Fabric, and nets photographer Jason Williamson the first prize in the Portrait category. All three judges loved this shot, and Pennie Smith said: "It's the idiot friend shot. It was spontaneous and made me laugh. Nothing up to that point had really scored a gut reaction until this one".

  • Alexandra Apolenová was the overall winner in the Aged 15-17 category, for this green-tinted shot of Adam Green at Pohoda Festival earlier this year.
