Kim Shattuck spoke exclusively to NME this week about her departure from Pixies, and hinted that she thinks part of the reason the band asked her to leave is that she got carried away and stage-dived at a show. ‘Pixies don’t do that’, she was told. Is that the weirdest reason anyone’s ever been sacked from a band?

LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson found out they were no longer members of Destiny's Child when, in 2001, they saw the video for "Say My Name" and saw their replacements Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Luckett and Roberson had reportedly been seeking an alternative manager, which didn't sit well the current manager Matthew Knowles (Beyonce's father) who replaced the girls immediately.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers only recorded one album with Dave Navarro, ‘One Hot Minute’, before they fired him in 1998. "Anthony Kiedis says it was because I tripped and fell over an amp while on drugs," explained Navarro. "I say that he was on more drugs than me at that point. We both had a loose relationship with reality. Who do you want to believe?”

The Sex Pistols fired their bass player Glen Matlock in 1977, allegedly because of his love for another British band: The Beatles. At first, Matlock and the group said the split was amicable, but the group's manager Malcolm McLaren later told reporter Derek Johnson that Matlock was sacked because "he went on too long about Paul McCartney."

Matt Pelissier was in My Chemical Romance long enough to help them record their platinum-selling 2004 album, "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge," and was then replaced a month after its release. Sources say he was fired for making mistakes on stage and being unwilling to play with a metronome during live performances.

Josh Homme fired longtime friend Nick Oliveri from Queens of the Stone Age after discovering that Oliveri had been physically abusive to his girlfriend. "A couple years ago, I spoke to Nick about a rumor I heard," Homme has said. "I said, 'If I ever find out that this is true, I can't know you, man.' Because music and my life are the same thing, there's no rules until something massive happens."

Drummer Steven Adler was sacked from Guns N' Roses over his heroin addiction in 1990. He had been briefly fired from the band earlier in the year before being allowed back when he signed a contract in which he vowed to stop taking drugs. He didn't.

When Brian Jones left the Rolling Stones it was cast as a mutual split. Jones said: "I no longer see eye-to-eye with the others over the discs we are cutting." However, in reality Jones was so out of it that the band moved to oust him as he was no longer being productive in the studio. Jones was found dead in his swimming pool shortly afterwards.

Ron Reyes was sacked from Black Flag live onstage by their new singer, Mike Vallely. As Reyes told it: “With two songs left in the set Mike V comes on stage, stares me down, takes my mic and says: ‘You’re done. Party’s over. Get off – it’s over.’"
