After stints in previous bands, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince first started writing together in 2000 by sending each other tapes across the pond through the mail, but a year later the singer swapped the States for the UK so they could write together properly. They put out their first self-released demo in 2001.

The pair - who rebranded themselves as Alison 'VV' Mosshart and Jamie 'Hotel' Hince for The Kills - shunned major label interest and released their 'Black Rooster EP' in the UK via Domino in 2002. The duo's debut LP, 'Keep On Your Mean Side', came out in 2003, garnering rave reviews and comparisons to The White Stripes and The Velvet Underground.

The Kills continued to enhance their reputation as one of the finest snarling blues-rock bands of the modern age with their next two LPs, 2005's 'No Wow' and 2008's 'Midnight Boom' - the latter, in particular, saw them break into the mainstream with a string of high-profile TV appearances and an ever-increasing fanbase.

Away from The Kills, Mosshart formed The Dead Weather with former White Stripes frontman Jack White. They've released two albums so far - 2009's 'Horehound', and 2010's 'Sea Of Cowards'.

Hince, meanwhile, became a red-top fixture courtesy of his high-profile relationship with supermodel Kate Moss. The rock'n'roll pair tied the knot in July last year.

After a three year break, though, The Kills finally returned with their fourth studio album 'Blood Pressures'. NME gave the LP a 7/10 review and declared that, after years of perfecting their craft, the band were "now more enjoyably familiar than tiredly over-played".

With the band celebrating their 10th anniversary earlier this year, let's just hope that it's not another lengthy wait before the pair's next album - and that the next decade is just as kind to 'em.
