Plan B and Richard Hawley have emerged as the favourites to win this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize with odds of 4-1 each. The shortlist of the 12 ‘Albums Of The Year’ chosen by an independent judging panel were announced on September 12 at London’s Hospital Club. Django Django, pictured, were among them.
Lady Gaga also caused a viral sensation on September 11 by revealing that she has shaved off most of the hair from the back of her head. You can see her new look in the picture below. Taking to Twitter to explain why, the singer revealed that she had done it in tribute to the mother of photographer Terry Richardson, a close friend of hers.

Muse and their record label Warner Music are facing a $3.5 million (£2.2 million) lawsuit from a man who claims that they “ripped off” their 2009 track ‘Exogenesis’ from his sci-fi rock opera of the same name. Bolfrass alleges that he contacted the Devon trio and two other bands in 2005 with the idea to write a sci-fi rock opera about space travel after the demise of the planet Earth.

Sigur Ros have called their Bestival set “a miserable experience”. The Icelandic band performed before headliner Stevie Wonder on September 9 and had asked organisers to guarantee that they would perform in darkness. But, due to Wonder’s requests, they were forced to perform in daylight, something that clearly upset them.

Paul McCartney joined Damon Albarn on stage at the Africa Express show in London on September 8. Appearing as a surprise special guest, the former Beatle first appeared playing bass on Rokia Traore’s ‘Dounia’, with former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones on mandolin, before playing Wings’ ‘Coming Up’ and ‘Goodnight Tonight’.

Rihanna told television personality Piers Morgan to “grow a dick” after he criticised her new hairdo. During her appearance as part of the Paralympic Games closing ceremony on September 9, Morgan tweeted to say: “I think @Rihanna needs to grow her hair back. Fast.” The singer responded to his comment by writing back: “grow a dick….. FAST!!!!”
Eddie String, a contestant on this year’s X Factor, auditioned with The Strokes’ classic ‘Last Nite’. Reaction on Twitter has been pretty negative, with user Nuzhat Nakamura perhaps summing it up best, she wrote: “Prime example of why I cannot stand x factor: some Mika look alike prick ruined my favourite Strokes song. #die”.

Chris Brown has faced a Twitter backlash over his new tattoo, after people pointed out a striking resemblance to the bruised face of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. The rapper is believed to have had the face of the woman, who appears to have a black eye and stitches on her lip, tattooed onto his skin before last week’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Coldplay were joined by Rihanna and Jay-Z as they played the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic games. Rihanna collaborated with the band on ‘Princess Of China’, the track they recorded together for Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto’, and Jay-Z joined the band for a version of his ‘Run This Town’ and a re-worked ‘Paradise’.
