2008 Songwriters Hall of Fame

Albert Hammond said he wants to collaborate with his son, The Strokes’ guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. In an interview with The Independent, the 64-year-old songwriter revealed his thoughts on his son’s music, adding that he "dreams" of a collaboration. Hammond, as revealed in NME’s special on The Strokes last year, loaned the band money to get their career started, who went on to say that he thinks his music taste helped to shape his offspring’s career.

The Cramps perform at the Astoria in London.

The Cramps’ frontman Lux Interior died in Glendale, California this week (February 4). The frontman of the highly influential New York punk band was 62. Interior, whose real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser, passed away at Glendale Memorial Hospital at 4:30am (PST) due to a previously existing heart condition.

A spokesperson for Pete Doherty has quashed tabloid rumours that the Babyshambles man has been evicted from his Wiltshire home. Various UK newspapers claimed that Doherty was set to be booted out of his rented home after his landlord, the Earl Of Cardigan, became irritated with the state he was keeping the property in.

Franz Ferdinand have confirmed that they will play at the Glastonbury festival this summer. The Scottish band listed the festival on their gig listings page on their official website, Franzferdinand.com, revealing that they will play on the Saturday (June 27) of the Somerset bash.

Estelle and The Ting Tings are set to perform onstage together at this year’s BRIT Awards – although they are yet to reveal what they will perform. The awards are set to take place on February 18 at the London Earls Court venue, with Kings Of Leon, Coldplay, Duffy, Girls Aloud, Take That and U2 all set to play on the night.

Prince launched his new website by playing a private gig at his Los Angeles home at the weekend (January 31). The show, witnessed by a handful of competition winners, journalists – including NME.COM and invited guests including soul singer Anita Baker and Prince’s protégée Bria Valente – saw the "purple one" perform a mammoth set with a full band in the basement of his Beverley Park mansion until around 3am.

NERD live at the Roundhouse, Camden 11.11.08. Shot for NME Live

N.E.R.D will headline the Relentless NASS festival in Somerset in July.
The show is currently the group’s only UK scheduled performance in 2009.
Pharrell Williams and co will headline the Friday night (July 10) of the bash, which continues until the Sunday (July 12) at The Bath And West Showground in Shepton Mallet.

Robbie Williams and Mark Ronson are set to record in Los Angeles together soon. Ronson told BBC 6music that the pair were set to complete work on a song which had originally been intended to appear on Williams’ previous album, 2006’s ‘Rudebox’.

Little Boots made her Los Angeles debut this week with a performance at Club NME Los Angeles this week (February 4). Backed by a drummer and keyboardist, the solo project from Dead Disco frontwoman Victoria Hesketh won over the packed house, which included members of No Doubt, Mika and Lily Allen producer Greg Kurstin.
