This week's news in pictures (18 July 2009)

The Cribs' Gary Jarman has issued a statement about his recent throat operation to remove nodules from his vocal chords. The singer and bassist had surgery on Monday (July 13) at an undisclosed location. In an email to fans on The Cribs' mailing list, Jarman explained that although the operation was a success, he is now not allowed to speak for two weeks. He stated that the procedure's success was "a massive weight off my mind", before explaining that he has been struggling with his vocals since touring with The Cribs in 2005. Photo: Andy Willsher
