This week's news in pictures (3 April 2010)

Metallica and Black Sabbath are teaming up for a special one-off joint release. The rock legends are both contributing a track to a 12-inch vinyl single which will be limited to just 1000 copies.

• Metallica, who recently completed a UK tour, are set to headline the brand new Sonisphere festival at Knebworth. Linkin Park top the other night and the festival's two stages are timed so that there's only ever one band on at a time. Photo: Danny North
