Whores, Freaks, Saints And Angels (Wall Of
Sound)
... Acid jazz lovers, disco poseurs, hip, name-dropping wannabes. They'll all
love this record too because it's about style over content, names rather than
faces, and who, not what, you know. As none of the above, NME feels barely
qualified to pass judgement on a record this achingly cool.
For all its
credentials, though, 'Whores, Freaks...' remains a relatively unexciting
funk number - even by Jamiroquai standards - despite the dash of
Kraftwerk added for spice, and lyrics that Brett Anderson wouldn't
be ashamed of ("We're all beautiful/We're all
dangerous/We're all takers..."). Ho hum. It's such an effort to be
different, sometimes.
