The Jayhawks
I'm Gonna Make You Love Me(Columbia)
Oldster music of the first water here from The Jayhawks. Looks old, sounds old, they're playing at the Shepherd's Bush Empire... all it needs is for Bob Ezrin to turn up
as producer and then... oh, hi Bob. So then after all these years, back come The Jayhawks, and the sack of adjectives that you could equally use to describe a piece of venerated antique furniture: quality, craftsmanship, nicely-finished.
And happily, a quite nice, mildly Dylanesque (in the shirts-and-slacks late-'70s vein) kind of optimistic, stalkery tune. You become perceptibly more mature listening to this record. The urge to tell young people to take care of their financial responsibilities, and to alphabetise your CD collection is almost impossible to resist. And you boy, stand up straight there.
